Tales out of Anchor 3: The Winds of Change

Booking for “Tales out of Anchor Three: The Winds of Change” opens on March 1st.

There are very few things that leading figures in many of the power blocs that control life in the Rockery agree on. One is that change is usually universally bad – if it must happen, then it should be initiated by, controlled by and ultimately benefit them especially.

There are eight such powers – maneuvering, scheming, gathering strength, whispering behind closed doors. When such winds blow in different directions, they tear each other apart and barely a breeze is felt. If some of them align, there is no telling the strength or direction of the tempest to come.

Will you brace yourselves against the winds of fortune, or ride the whirlwind?
When the storm settles, where will you be and who will be with you?

Only Audit Day can answer these questions.

Be There. Be Ready.

Tales out of Anchor is a Freeform Live-Action Role Playing game, emphasising costume and theatricality. It is a rules-lite game, with low character death and high Player-versus-Player conflict, as characters strive to obtain and keep status in the floating city of Anchor.

It is a fully-catered event with indoor accommodation, running a 24-hour Time-In experience.

We are very pleased to announce that booking for Event 3 will open on
Wednesday 1/3/17, at 6pm.

Tickets will be available through Eventbrite.

SantaCorp – Can YOU ensure the children get their toys?

SANTACORPAn immersive team game by Firecat Masquerade. Can you outwit your supervisors to ensure the children of the world get their toys?

Sat 3rd Dec. 5pm – 7pm
The Dukebox Theater,
Waterloo Street, Hove

Check the list. Check it twice.
SantaCorp is coming to town.

Santacorp is an irreverent and satirical take on festive holiday-mania, coupled with a scathing takedown of corporate culture. In this immersive team game, players take the part of minimum-wage elves in the bureaucratic nightmare that is Santa’s Grotto, battling red tape and the toxic aspirations of the North Pole’s profit-obsessed Senior Board to make sure that children get toys.

In Santacorp, teams of players must work together, puzzling over the details of the Naughty and Nice Dossiers to make sure that the presents are wrapped, addressed to the right children, and delivered on time. All the while Firecat Masquerade’s crew, playing their red-and-white-clad supervisors, do their utmost to distract them from the task with the introduction of ever more byzantine regulations, branding missions, and team bonding exercises.

SantaCorp concludes 2016’s ‘Eleven Tales of Intrigue’ series. Every month throughout 2016, Firecat Masquerade brings you a different tale of intrigue, treachery, investigation and negotiation.

Hosted by the Dukebox Theatre, these experimental social games are lightweight, suitable for ages 16+ and last 2-3 hours. You are heartily encouraged to bring your friends, make new ones, build teams, build rivalries and Play.

Toy’s Ward

Then the news broke – a landslide on Candy Mountain – the Liqourice Express derailed. Critically injured toys are flooding into the severely understaffed Toys Ward in the hospital. With the senior staff unavailable, a small team of inexperienced trainee surgeons suddenly find the lives of eighty-seven crash-victims in their hands.

Toy’s Ward is a darkly humorous game of operating-room drama that juxtaposes frantic action and tough decisions with childhood whimsy. Players will need to cooperate to diagnose, triage and treat cases against a tight time limit and ever-increasing workload.

Hello all!

We are very proud and excited that Tales Out Of Anchor was nominated as Best New LARP at the recent UK LARP Awards. We didn’t win (congratulations to Red Letter Day!) and it was amazing to be part of the event. Sarah was on the Tales Out Of Anchor stall all weekend meeting new people and talking to them about our upcoming event, as well as showing off costume, props and the lovely photographs from Event One.

Thank you to everyone who came to see us, and we hope to see you soon.

Greetings, Friends.

A happy new year to you all.  We’re currently surviving the cold and the wet by coming up with new ideas and making plans for the coming year.

  • Project Snowflake Playtest on Thurs 19th March

Project Snowflake Playtest – Thurs 16th March

Project Snowflake is a regular interactive dramatic game where teams of 5 players take the roles of vital characters in a War Room during a nuclear arms race.

Will you favour the sage advice of your Engineer or are you going to throw every resource you have at your General in the hope of wiping the opposition off the map? Is your Industrialist secretly planning to win the Embezzlement Award, or does your Spy have extra information that they can’t share?

Our playtest for Project Snowflake will run at the Dukebox in Brighton on Thursday 19th of March. Doors open at 7pm for teams to collect packs and the game will start promptly at 7:30pm.

The playtest will cost £2 to attend.  We’d love to see lots of you there. Full event details are on our events page here. To book please email or join the Facebook group here.

Tales out of Anchor: A Game of Rise and Fall Event 2 – 5th-7th Feb 2016

Our freeform Lrp event “Tales out of Anchor” was a great success. We could wax lyrical all day about how awesome our crew and players were, but we think some of the best moments in the game are summed up by Tom Garnett. His amazing photographs and  take a look at his tumblr here.

Event Two will take place YHA Langdale in Cumbria for 5th – 7th Feb, 2016 for our second event.  We’ll be opening booking soon, so watch this space. Please encourage anyone you know who wants to attend the next game to sign up for our newsletter and join the Facebook group or event page.

In the meantime, if you attended Event One, we’d love to hear your feedback! We’ve created a quick and simple form that you can fill in at your leisure. The more you tell us, the better the next game will be.

For any other queries, or if you’d like to send us character ideas, you can email the team at

Tales out of Anchor: Salons

But you don’t have to wait a whole year for the next episode in your character’s story!

During 2015 there will be one-night Salons – public or semi-public events hosted on Anchor and  other parts of the Rockery – which your characters will all be invited to. The team are looking at London venues at the moment and we encourage players to run their own events closer to their home – just find a venue and get in touch. We will bring plot, current affairs and characters to your event.

Feel free to contact us, with any ideas for venues, or if you are interested in hosting a Salon, at

In two months’ time, a group of excellent players are running the first Tales out of Anchor Salon – The Skydancer Winter Festival will be hosted at Beverly Priory YHA on 13th-15th March

Summer News

Posted on August 4, 2014 by

Summer usually finds performers either in Edinburgh, other Festivals or sweltering in black-box stages but we’ve been ringing the changes with two different projects.

We kicked off yesterday in Greenwich with an afternoon punking up the Longitude Act as part of Clockwork Watch a collaborative, multi-media storytelling project.

Firecat performers guided guests around the glorious Queen’s House at the Maritime Museum introducing them to an alternate universe of the Steampunk quest for Longitude. This was commissioned as part of LONGITUDE PUNK’D, running until January 2015.

This Friday (8 August) we are at Nine Worlds with Amnesia a new, mini “theatre-style” LRP supernatural mystery game, so come and join us.

Bookings are still open for Tales Out Of Anchor our October LRP game which fuses Regency England with 1930s Shanghai. Join us for a weekend of high drama in a lush, original world-setting of floating islands, political shenanigans and secrets.

We are looking for new performers – if you are interested in being part of what we do, please get in touch on
